In the world of fitness, it’s easy to believe that more is better. More reps, more sets, more hours in the gym. However, like most things in the fitness world we embrace a different philosophy.
This approach isn’t just about efficiency, it’s about long-term strength and healthy aging.
The fitness industry often promotes the idea that extreme effort leads to extreme results. This mindset can lead to injuries, and burnout. Many people, in their quest for rapid progress, end up doing more harm than good.
Healthy aging is not the same pursuit as world class athleticism!
At our gym, we prioritise quality over quantity.
This means focusing on proper form, adequate recovery, and smart programming. By doing this, you can actually achieve more substantial and sustainable progress.
Progress being the outcome of marginal 1% improvements over time.
In James clears book Atomic habits he states:
“If you get one percent better each day for one year, you’ll end up thirty-seven times better by the time you’re done”
Quality Over Quantity
One of the most significant benefits of our approach is the emphasis on quality.
Here’s how we implement it:
1. Proper Technique: We ensure that every movement is performed to the best of your current ability. This not only maximises effectiveness but also minimises the risk of injury. Good technique is the foundation of strength and longevity.
2. Focused Workouts: Rather than endless hours of exercise, in our 1-1 sessions we design targeted workouts that address specific goals that are suitable for your current capacity. Each session is purposeful, making the most of your time and energy. In group classes we call this scaling.
3. MEV + MRV: We start with the minimum effective training volume (MEV)and over time we push up your maximum recoverable volume(MRV). A persons MRV will increase over time, IF! they adhere to a progressive training system.
4.Adequate Recovery: Muscles grow and strengthen during rest, not during the workout itself. We build recovery time into your program to ensure your body has the chance to repair and grow.
5.Understanding that everyone has limitations: Yours are different than mine. The capacity i have in my joints may allow for effective use of certain exercises and not for others. However, our limitations are not obstacles but rather starting points for improvement. By understanding and respecting these limitations, we can work to achieve our goals in a safe, sustainable, and enjoyable way.
This is why we have Personalised Programming!
We understand that each individual is unique. We tailor our group programs to meet your specific needs, taking into account your fitness level, goals, and any physical limitations. This personalised approach ensures that you get the most out of every workout but sometimes a more effective approach is to work 1-1 with a coach. We can create a workout that is even more effective if we only have your needs and goals in mind.
In group classes we know it can sometimes be frustrating modifying due to your current abilities or as a result of an injury!
But…
This individuality is what makes your fitness journey so unique and personal.
Our goal is to work with you to identify the exercises and routines that best suit your body’s needs. We focus on optimising your potential by tailoring our programs to accommodate your specific capabilities. Whether you’re aiming to build strength, improve mobility, or enhance your overall health, we ensure that each workout is both safe and effective for you.
Healthy aging is a key component of our approach. As we age, our bodies require different care and attention. Our strength training programs are designed to support healthy joints, increase muscle mass, and promote longevity. We are committed to helping you age gracefully and maintain an active lifestyle for years to come.
Your health and well-being are our top priorities. We are here to support you every step of the way with diligence, care, and a professional approach that respects your needs.
